KABUL (Pajhwok): The government on Sunday rejected as baseless reports about the destruction of the tomb of Gen. MohammadDaudDaud by security forces in northern Takhar province.

Claim:

Gen. Mohammad Daud Daud served in the previous government as the governor of Takhar province, deputy interior minister, police chief of northeastern region and commander of 303 Pamir Military Unit. He was killed in an attack on May 29 in 2011.

Afghanistan International, a news outlet, on its Facebook page on Friday quoted residents of Farkhar district of Takhar province as saying that the tomb of Gen. Daud had been destroyed by the “Taliban”.

“Gen.Daud was a close ally of Ahmad Shah Massoud and a major barrier to the Taliban’s influence in the north and Takhar,” the report said.

The report was also circulated in social media platforms.

Fact Finding:

Ansarullah Ansari, director of information and culture of Takhar, denied reports of destruction of Gen. Daud’s tomb and termed the report as baseless.

Talking to Pajhwok Afghan News, Ansari said, “A number of security personnel of the Islamic Emirate have taken a selfi with the tomb in the background, some self-interested individuals published these photos in social media and made false claims of destruction of the tomb.”

He said that no damage had been made to the tomb and the report was baseless.

ZikrullahKhairkhwa, a resident of Farkhar district ofTakhar province, also denied the reports about destruction of Gen. Daud’s tomb. He said that the tomb did not receive any damages.

Outcome:

Rumors circulating on social media that security forces have destroyed Gen. Daud’s tomb in Takhar are dismissed by the government as baseless.

Verdict:Rumors about destruction of Gen. Daud’s tomb are false.
